Omari Kaiya hails from the East New York section of Brooklyn. After a tumultuous upbringing, he was able to turn things around and embark on a legendary journey that landed him at Sugar Creek Charter School in Charlotte, NC. His goal is simple: To pay it forward! After leaving the military, Mr. Kaiya received his undergrad/graduate degrees from Norfolk State University. He is currently enrolled at Marymount University pursuing his Terminal Degree in Leadership in School Counseling. Omari Kaiya is bringing a new energy and excitement to Sugar Creek Charter School, as he plans to help shape, refine, and advance the class of 2025 into unparalleled achievement.

Course Description:

College and Career Readiness (CCR) I, is a two-semester required Freshman Seminar course given to all 9th grade students at Sugar Creek Charter High School. This bridge course will be used to help students transition from middle school to high school, while building a foundation of resilience. CCR I/Freshman Seminar is student-centered, designed to promote academic achievement, career exploration, personal/social growth, and responsible citizenship of all students.

Course Competencies/ Learning Objectives: Students who successfully complete Freshman CCR will be competent in the following areas:
